FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. -- Lightning strikes all around Dawson Creek just before 7:30 Wednesday morning.

The system brought with it some much needed rain for area farmers.

The storm is also keeping the fire danger rating in the region at low.

B.C. Wildfire says today's thunderstorms caused 4 new wildfires in the Prince George fire region.

2 fires near Mackenzie have already been put out, while 2 other small fires nearby continue burning.

The high humidity in the air and the moisture on the ground from previous rainfall benefited firefighting efforts in the region.

As for the Peace River Regional District, they say their emergency operations centre in Dawson Creek is no longer open. However, they continue to monitor the on-going situation.
