DAWSON CREEK -- There has been an increase in the number of toxic drug overdoses in the Dawson Creek area.

There have been 3 deaths from overdoses in Dawson Creek in the last 10 days. Mounties are calling the news alarming.

The Dawson Creek Fire Department and paramedics rushed to the scene of a drug overdose at the Mile Zero Apartments Hotel Sunday.

The patient survived but friends of his told CJDC TV News that a dark purple street drug they say is responsible for the increase.

Police in Dawson Creek confirm that at least one of the deaths maybe connected to a purple drug.

The Dawson Creek RCMP, along with the BC Coroners Service continue parallel investigations into the deaths.

CJDC TV News reach out to Northern Health for comment. The health authority said they are not aware of any issues with the local drug supply.
