United Way gears up for fire truck pull

Later this month the United Way of Northern BC is getting set to host their 8th annual fire truck pull.
The popular fundraiser sees teams of up to 10 people literally pull together to raise money for the United Way of Northern BC by pulling a 22,000 lbs. fire truck. The event is set to run on September 15th and the United Way is still looking for interested teams to join. For a $250 registration donation the United Way is asking interested businesses and groups to get their teams of up to 10 people together to join in on the fun.
“It’s the registration fee, but it’s the minimum donation so it’s not a fee that goes to the event, to the city or whatever, that’s for money that stays in programming in Fort St. John that’s a really important thing to remember is that all money that’s raised for this particular event is staying for programming that stays in Fort St. John,” said Phallon Stoutenburg with the United Way of Northern BC.
Along with a Pancake Breakfast and BBQ lunch teams will compete in four categories, the heavyweight and not-so heavy weight divisions, most spirited team and most funds raised.
“We have teams that come together and they raise money for programming that stays right here in Fort St. John and it’s an all-around community event, people come out and they dress up and they just, the sprite is there, it is the sprite of Fort St. John and it is such an amazing event.”
To register a team you can check out the United Way of Northern BC’s Facebook Page. Last year the event raised just over $35,000.
