Rotary Spray Park grand opening gets a rain check

The grand opening of Fort St. John’s Rotary Spray Park will be postponed due to foreseen inclement weather.

The much-anticipated grand opening ceremony was scheduled for this Friday, even though the spray park opened up for the community on June 18th.

But with rain in the forecast, the City chose to postpone the event.

City staff say the purpose of the ceremony is bigger than just showing off the new park.

“The grand opening isn’t about the city going ‘look at us, we’re awesome, we’ve made a spray park.’ This has been an extremely collaborative project for both rotary clubs, we’ve received grant funds, local sponsors that have contributed to this project, and we want to make an event to recognize all that,” said Marissa Jordan, Recreation Programmer for the City of Fort St. John.

The project has been about two years in the making.

The City says they are disappointed that the weather is causing a delay on something they worked hard on planning.

“It’s a big celebration, it’s a grand opening. We have to reorganize with all the Rotarians that are coming and all that kinds of stuff. So, you know, it’s never fun for us to have to reschedule stuff, we want to – we work hard to plan these events, and we want the public to enjoy them as much as they possibly can,” said Jordan.

Organizers say they are keeping an eye on the forecast and once the rain is clear, they can move forward with a new date.
