Red Cross and Province Team Up To Help Old Fort Evacuees

Travis Fortnum

If your fridge or freezer was damaged during the 2018 Old Fort landslide evacuation, you may qualify for a new replacement program.

Announced today, the Canadian Red Cross and B.C. Government have partnered to provide financial assistance to homeowners whose appliances were damaged or to ease the cost of spoiled food.

Eligible homeowners who lost power during the evacuations can register with the Red Cross.

They will then be assessed for financial assistance with fridge, freezer or food replacement by meeting with a caseworker.

Red Cross caseworkers are available for drop-in meetings with impacted residents at the Pomeroy Sports Centre, in the meeting room.

Times for drop-ins include:

  • Sunday, February 24 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Monday, February 25 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 26 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, February 27 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Meetings with a Red Cross caseworker can also be arranged by calling (250) 661-6304.
