The countdown is on!
The Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks will lace up their skates for their first exhibition game of the 2018-19 season this Saturday (September 8th).
At 7:00 p.m., the Jr. Canucks will face the visiting Sexsmith Vipers at the Encana Events Centre in the Mile Zero City.
Keeping with tradition, the game will be a fundraiser for the Dawson Creek Food Bank.
General Manager and Assistant Coach with the Jr. Canucks, Colby Wagar, says the community is welcome to come out to support the players and to cheer them on.
"Bring your non-perishables and we're going to try to fill a truck and donate it."
Game time is at 7:00 p.m., but the arena will open its doors at 6:15 p.m..
Admission is free and there will be a 50/50 raffle at the game for one lucky fan.
The team is ready to get back on the ice - one step closer to seeking revenge from last year's heartbreak.
"You always got to build off your season before." Wagar adds, "When we got knocked out, I mean, that stung us. It hurt. So we've been going due diligently; I haven't stopped recruiting. I suspect us to have a, if not stronger, as strong a team as we had last year. We'll have great goaltending, so we're going to try to bring home the cup this year and get to provincials."
The road to the cup begins on Friday, September 21st when the Jr. Canucks take on the Fairview Flyers in Fairview.
The Jr. Canucks will host their Home Opener at Memorial Arena on Saturday, September 29th.
Puck-drop is at 8:00 p.m..
