Fort St John City Council approved the use of credit cards to pay for property taxes in their meeting on Monday.

The city joins numerous other communities around the peace region like Dawson Creek and Tumbler Ridge allowing residents to pay with plastic.

There will be a 3.5% fee on top of your regular property tax bill if you do pay with a credit card.

Dawson Creek has a 2% fee, Cranbook is at 2.4%, and the District of Tumbler Ridge sits at 1.5%

Or you can also pay online through the MyCityHall app with a credit card.

Mayor Lori Ackerman says it's about time Fort St. John made this option available for residents.

"Online payments is not new age. Really, we could have put this in years ago. It was just a matter of finding the right online application that would allow us to do this." Ackerman said.

Mayor Ackerman also mentioned the provincial Home Owner Grant applications must now be done online as well.
