Fort St. John council rejects Kin Park refrigerated rink

James Dunn

Fort St. John City Council unanimously rejected the idea of a refrigerated ice at Kin Park.

The rennovation would have allowed the rink to be used year round.

Costs estimated from $2-3 million to build, along with $300,000 a year to operate.

The City of Fort St. John recieved just under $1 million from the provincial government in grant funding to reimagine the park.

A number of councillors along saying it's a good idea, but would rather see the money go somewhere else.

Mayor Lori Ackerman also saying the high price tag was hard to justify.

Kin Park will be getting numerous upgrades including:

Multi-use leisure ice surface

A boarded outdoor rink

Pickleball courts

Improved parking lots and entrances

An expanded bike track

Additonal and improved washrooms and playgrounds

A Fitness circuit

A Scooter and skateboard circuit

Gathering areas and picnic shelters

A batting cage
