The two bodies found earlier this week near Liard Hot Springs have been identified.
The family of Lucas Fowler, an Australian man, has released a statement confirming him to be one of the victims - identifying the second as his American girlfriend Chynna Deese.
Fowler was the son of Stephen Fowler, New South Wales Police Chief Inspector.
The statement was posted to the police force website.
"We have lost our dear Lucas Fowler, son, brother, grandson and friend in the most terrible of circumstances," the statement reads.
"To lose someone so young and vibrant, who was travelling the world and just enjoying life to the full, is devastating.
"To know his beautiful girlfriend, Chynna Deese of Charlotte, North Carolina also lost her life in this violent event is too cruel.
"All our love and best wishes go to Chynna’s family and friends.
"We are all now travelling to Canada to be with our boy and to bring him home."
Northern Rockies RCMP issued a release earlier this week calling for anyone who travelled the stretch of the Alaska Highway, south of Liard Hot Springs, from 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 14 to 8:00 a.m. Monday, July 15 to contact them.
They are especially interested in obtaining any dash camera footage from that period.
Police have said that an older model blue minivan with Alberta plates was found near the scene.
RCMP say they are investigating the incident as a double homicide.
