FORT ST. JOHN -- A moderate earthquake could be felt across parts of the Peace Region early Friday morning.

Natural Resources Canada reported that a magnitude 4.6 quake was detected 61 kilometres west of Fort St. John, just after midnight. The quake struck at a depth of 1.5 kilometers.

There is fracking activity that takes place in the area where the earthquake hit, north of Hudson’s Hope.

BC's Energy Regulator says the quake was caused by oil and gas activity. In an email to CJDC TV News, BCER says, "Pacific Canbriam is working in the area and linked to this event."

There are no reports of any damage.
