Steam Clouds Sighted Near Hythe Well Fire

Officials in Alberta are alerting the public to the potential for large clouds of steam in the vicinity of a gas well fire 20 kilometres northwest of Hythe.

Davis Sheremata, with the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board says crews are continuing to remove equipment from around the wellhead.

Sheremata says drilling a nearby relief well to lower pressure in the formation will likely be required to extinguish the blowout.

There have still been no detectable readings of sour gas in the area.
