Residents prepare to clean up Fort St John's streets as part of Pitch In Week
The City of Fort St John wants you to pitch in with cleaning up the community.
Pitch in Week is being held from May 23rd to 27th, after the long weekend, where residents pick up garbage around town. The city has been hosting the week for a number of years, and says it’s an effort to make the community more attractive to tourists.
“The flowers are starting to bloom and everything’s starting to really green up, and there’s always a little bit more influx of visitors coming to town after the May long weekend," said Lisa Rowbotham, community development officer. "It’s really a chance to kind of beautify the community and get it ready for the summer months.”
Rowbotham says the week is very popular, and already has attracted a large number of groups hoping to take part.
“To date we have roughly 2,538 volunteers signed up," Rowbotham said. "The City of Fort St John, we always like to lead by example as well, and you’ll see us collecting garbage on the Thursday, the 25th, along the Alaska Highway.”
If you’d like to take part, fill out a form by Wednesday, May 17, which can be picked up at the Pomeroy Sport Centre, or by calling 250-787-5791. All participants will receive an honorarium.
