Flood Watch issued for Peace Region

The Province’s River Forecast Centre has upgraded a high streamflow advisory to a flood watch for the Peace Region, including Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, Fort St. John, Hudson’s Hope and surrounding areas.

Prolonged rain is expected over the region starting tonight and into Sunday.

Current forecasts from Environment Canada are predicting 50 to 90 millimetres of rain over the Thursday to Saturday morning period. Snowmelt is contributing to streamflow in the region, with current snow melt rates of about five to 15 millimetres per day.

The Province says there is a potential for moderate flooding from this event.

The high streamflow advisory remains in place for areas near the Sikanni Chief, Prophet and Muskwa Rivers and surrounding areas southwest of Fort Nelson.
