Fort St John Hospital Foundation receives big boost in Bluey Day fundraising
The fundraising efforts for the Fort St John Hospital Foundation’s Bluey Day have received a huge boost.
The foundation has received a one-time donation of $50,000 from local resident Giovanna Mucci. The foundation says Mucci gave the money for personal reasons.
“Giovanna approached us, and she wanted to make a substantial donation in memory of her husband, Edmondo Mucci, who passed away in 2001," said Jessica Kalman, chief development officer of the foundation. "He passed away from leukemia, so it was really important to her that it went towards something that helps out with cancer patients. So that’s why we put it towards the Cancer Treatment and Diagnostic Fund, and she was excited to kick off Bluey Day with that donation.”
The idea behind Bluey Day is to have local residents raise at least $500 for the foundation, then shave their heads in solidarity with cancer patients. The foundation’s goal is to raise $100,000 and this contribution goes a long way towards helping them reach their goal.
“A huge difference. We’re still hoping to raise the 100 thousand dollars from participant fundraising efforts, however this is a really good start. So if we can get up over that 100 thousand dollar mark, that’s going to be really exciting, and allow us to look at the list of needs from the hospital and go forward with our purchases.”
Bluey Day will be taking place May 27th. Anyone interested in participating, should visit or call the Hospital Foundation’s offices, at 250-261-7563.
