Fort St John and District Chamber of Commerce looking for questions in lead-up to all-candidates forum

With the provincial election fast approaching, the Fort St John and District Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the all-candidates forum.

The chamber is collecting questions from their members in the lead-up to the forum, focusing on how each candidate plans to tackle economic issues in the region. The chamber says the issues that affect commerce in the riding are wide-reaching.

“There’s a lot of... factors that have a direct impact on businesses – transportation, infrastructure, healthy communities, our healthcare system," said Nelson Stowe, chamber president. "All of these things reflect back to the success of businesses in the community, and of course, our responsibility as a chamber is to encourage business growth and the business viability in the area.”

While a lot of the questions have been business-related, the chamber says they have seen a few questions dealing with a unique issue faced in this election cycle.

“We have 3 independent [candidates] I believe, and at this point we have a Liberal and an NDP candidate," Stowe said. "There’s five. So three of those are independents, so that’s a significant majority. So, there are questions coming with regards to the independent candidate’s ability to be effective in the legislature.”
