Fort St. John RCMP warning drivers about idling vehicles

Fort St. John RCMP are seeing a disturbing trend involving all types of vehicles in the city.

Police are saying motorists have been leaving their doors unlocked and the keys in the in the ignition to keep the car warm so you won’t be able to lock your doors.

RCMP say thieves have been easily jumping in cars that are left unlocked and taking off with them.

Police are asking people that if they need to leave their vehicle idling due to the cold weather, to please either use your remote start, or always carry an extra set of keys with you in order to properly secure your vehicle.

Police want you to know that failing to properly secure your motor vehicle could cost you an $81 fine for having an unsecure motor vehicle, or something worse might happen, like a thief who might get away with your ride.
