Meikle Wind plant wins Clean Energy BC award
Pattern Energy Group's 179-megawatt Meikle Wind power facility near Tumbler Ridge has received THE Clean Energy BC’s Project Excellence Award.
Meikle wind consists of more than 60 wind turbines found hidden 33-kilometeres north of Tumbler Ridge in front of the Bullmoose Mountains.
The facility’s layout incorporates two different turbine models consisting of different propeller sizes and height.
The design was developed to generate the most energy from the ridgelines, accounting for varying wind speeds, turbulence, and inflow angles.
The facility commenced commercial operations in the first quarter of 2017 and operates under a 25-year power purchase agreement with BC Hydro.
The plant celebrated its grand opening a few months ago.
