Possible bear sighting in Fort St. John community forest

A report of a bear sighting near Fish Creek Community Forrest has the City of Fort St. John reminding people how to stay safe around wildlife.

According to the City of Fort St. John’s Facebook page, they received reports about a possible bear sighting close to Fish Creek Community Forrest Thursday morning.

The city is urging locals to use extreme caution, in and around the forest.

They also provided RESIDENTS with tips on how to avoid being attacked – make noise, travel in groups, and keep your dog on a leash.

If you do encounter a bear remain calm, speak firmly, and back away slowly.

If you spot a bear or wildlife, contact RCMP or the BC Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277, which operates on a 24/7 hotline.
