lakeview5.jpgLakeview credit union celebrated it's 75'th birthday in the community Wednesday , to mark a milestone and to thank the people of the Peace Region for it's years of support

The credit union was formed in 1943 after farmers and pioneers struggled to get basic financial services like financing for projects.

"  Our founders were incredible people who had insight and perserverence and their goal was to make sure that everybody in the community had access to financial services, had access to financial products . Alot of banks turned away those people years ago," said CEO of Lake View Credit Union Lori Archibald.

She adds that if it wasn't for the founders seeing the need for a credit union in Dawson Creek, the organization would not have been able to serve the community for over seven decades .

Staff of Lake View Credit Union served cake to the public and some of their long-standing members like Barrie Steeves who has been with Lake View Credit Union for over 63 years.

" It's not a bunch of fat cats funnelling all their money from the local district and shipping it off somewhere else, it virtually stays in this area, " said Steeves .

" It's been a fantastic business for the community for as long as I can remember, " he added.

The credit union currently serves three communities in the region Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, and Tumbler Ridge.
