Hockey fans, it's finally here!
On Saturday (September 8th) night, fans of the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks came out in full-force to cheer on their local team in their first exhibition game.
The Jr. Canucks won the high-intensity match 9-6.
Although the regular season games don't begin until next Friday, there's still lots of hockey action to enjoy - including a special feature tonight (September 14th)!
Another challenge for the Jr. Canucks begins tonight at 7:00 p.m., when they host the Canadian National Women's Team at the Encana Centre.
The game is part of Hockey Canada's 'Women's Fall Fair.'
General Manager and Assistant Manager with the Jr. Canucks, Colby Wagar, says it's an amazing event and the team is excited to be a part of it.
"It's a great opportunity to get a chance to coach in a game like that and it's an unbelieveable opportunity for our players and these young guys to play that calibre of hockey. To do it in their own hometown, I mean, it's something that these boys will never forget and our fans will never forget, so it's going to be amazing. I can't wait."
There are five women participating in the camp from British Columbia and two from Alberta.
The try-out squad includes 17 members of the silver-medal team from the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang earlier this year.
"The level of compete is going to be - it won't be completely different, but those are Olympians, right?" Wagar adds, "Those ladies are here to make an Olympic team, so their compete level is going to be very high, they're going to be in great shape, so we're either going to have to be in really good shape, or really, really fast - one of the two and for a real quick time. So it'll be interesting. I'm excited to see it."
The festival continues Saturday and Sunday, with games between Team Canada, the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks and the Fort St. John Huskies.
