A warning from the Grande Prairie RCMP.
Officers are asking the public to take caution, after having received multiple reports from citizens who have answered phone calls from people claiming to represent Canada Revenue Agency.
The caller is allegedly pressuring the resident to divulge personal information, or is telling them they need to pay a certain amount of money or they will be arrested.
The RCMP has a few safety tips:
Do not share your personal information with anyone on the phone.
Take notice of unsolicited calls.
Don't ever feel pressured to make a quick decision.
Find the correct phone number through a trusted source and phone the associated department directly.
Be aware of your own personal situation.
For more information, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or online at www.antifraudcentre.ca, the Grande Prairie RCMP at 780-830-5700, your local police station, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
