UPDATE: Beaverlodge RCMP warn of severe flooding

UPDATE (6:00 p.m.):

Highway 43 has re-opened for motorists.

Beaverlodge, Hythe and Wembley Fire Departments teamed up with the RCMP to clear the flooded area.

Some areas in and around Beaverlodge are still dealing with minor flooding and areas of standing water.

Drivers should drive very cautiously in these areas.

ORIGINAL POST:

Motorists are being advised to avoid Highway 43 in Beaverlodge, after a severe rain and hail storm around 3:00 p.m. earlier today (Wednesday).

Beaverlodge RCMP is assisting with a traffic detour, due to the immediate and massive flooding in various areas.

Highway 43 is being diverted at both the east and west end of the city. Drivers will be sent onto Highway 722 to bypass Beaverlodge.

Officers are working with the fire department and other agencies to remedy the situation as soon as possible.

The public is being asked to avoid the area.
